This organism feeds off the limestone that is used in the manufacturing of your asphalt shingle or tile roof and usually develop in areas that do not receive direct sunlight or little sunlight. 

Without routine and proper cleaning maintenance to your roof, it allows Gloeocapsa magma to accumulate on your roof.  By allowing this bacteria to accumulate, it could eventually degrade your roofs structural integrity.
